Description

The General Manager for Logistics and Distribution is responsible for setting and implementing the logistics and distribution strategy with the primary distribution centre for this leading national retail chain.

This senior management role will have indirect line management of in excess of 1000 colleagues across the DC ensuring best in class operations across the warehousing and distribution network.

Key elements of the role include:

  • Lead the day to day operations of the DC, ensuring all managerial team members are efficient implementing processes and procedures ensuring safety, efficiency and compliance are paramount across the site.
  • Continual development of strategic DC plans operating within a culture of continuous improvement always looking for opportunities to create better working practices.
  • Full control of budgetary spend across capital, revenue and wages to meet quality cost and service target.
  • To resource plan the operation, short, medium and long terms ensuring that business initiatives are taken into consideration.
  • Improve working environment and processes of the organisation (continuous improvement) and implement quality management and regulatory compliance strategies.
  • Implementation of new business processes, strategies and business measures across the DC ensuring compliance and through measurement of key metrics and KPI’s.
  • Ensure robust performance management of the operations team ensuring employee productivity whilst maintaining quality of work and health and safety standards at all times.
  • Create and maintain effective communication methods across the DC, ensuring information cascades to all team members.

 

The person:

  • Develop and maintain a Health and Safety culture to ensure the well-being of all employees, customers and third party vendors, through constant monitoring, reviews of procedures and working closely to the Risk Management Team.
  • Previous experience in a general management role across a retail distribution centre is essential.
  • A proven track record of continuous improvement and delivering KPI’s across a retail distribution network.
  • A results driven, measured and consistent approach, with the ability to inspire and motivate colleagues to deliver to the best of their ability.
  • A track record of delivery with a methodical and structured approach, running an efficient and tightly managed operation whilst engendering a culture of openness where colleagues are encouraged to continually suggest improvements across the DC.
  • Experienced in the management and development of a large management team ensuring their personal development needs are met whilst ensuring each individual team is meeting standards across all measurable.
  • A passion for delivering a best in class customer service experience across the distribution network.
  • Operations team ensuring employee productivity whilst maintaining quality of work and health and safety standards at all times.
  • Create and maintain effective communication methods across the DC, ensuring information cascades to all team members.
  • Develop and maintain a Health and Safety culture to ensure the well-being of all employees, customers and third party vendors, through constant monitoring, reviews of procedures and working closely to the Risk Management Team.
  • Excellent management, communication and organisational skills are essential.
